Do NOT Trade Your SSR Characters to the Baba Shop Until You Read About the Dupe System

Within the past month, after the immense amount of Dragon Stones and time spent trying to pull Super Gogeta, and Dokkan Awaken him, I pulled four more. That’s right, four extra Super Gogeta. All while trying to pull from other banners in which he was not a featured character.

Sure, I would be excited if I hadn’t already spent a bunch of money and Dragon Stones trying to pull him in the first place. This actually made me angry. So my first instinct was to trade all four of my extra Super Gogeta to the Baba shop because I already had his super attack maxed out. Luckily, I vented to

Luckily, I vented to my friend my frustrations. Right as I was about to cash in on my 40,000 Baba Shop Trade Points, my friend said “Stop! Don’t do that! Have you not heard of the Dupe System?!

My reply, of course, was “No, what is that?” So he explained…

The Dupe System in Dokkan Battle is currently only available on the JP version, but will soon come to Global. He advised that I save all of my duplicated SSR cards (Dupes)

Assuming that the Dupe System is not altered, aside from language and context of images to match the English version of how the Dupe System in Dokkan Battle will translate, this is all of the information that I have been able to gather on the Dupe System in Dokkan Battle.

Choosing A Skill and Oblivion

Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle, Dokkan Battle Dupe System, DokkanBlog.com, Dupe System in Dokkan Battle
There are nodes called “Ability Skill Selection Nodes”, where you will be given the choice between several abilities to pick from.

The amount of items that you need to unlock this field will not chance with the choice you will make, but there are cases where the amount of skill level that rises will change with the skill that you will choose.

You get the choice to “Oblivion” when you tap on that node again. By choosing “Oblivion” you can put the node back to the state where you haven’t picked a skill yet.

To be able to “Oblivion” you need to use “Dragon Stones”” or a “Same Character Card”.

Oblivion, Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle, Dokkan Battle Dupe System, DokkanBlog.com, Dupe System in Dokkan Battle

When choosing a skill after you did “Oblivion”, you will need to use Ability Orbs again to be able to choose a skill.

“Ability Skill Selection Nodes” that have been used will have a star sign over them.

Improvement Direction

Improvement Directions, Oblivion, Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle, Dokkan Battle Dupe System, DokkanBlog.com, Dupe System in Dokkan Battle

There are 4 starting directions in which you can improve a character in the Ability System.

  1. Balanced Improvement
This is the path that goes to the top left.
There is a good balance between improving ATK and DEF. In the additional unlocked path, you can unlock Ability Skills.
  2. ATK Improvement
This is the path that goes to the top right.
In this path you will mainly improve the ATK of a character.
  3. HP and DEF Improvement
This is the path that goes to the bottom left.
In this path you will mainly improve the HP and DEF of a character.
  4. Massive Improvement
This is the path that goes to the bottom right.
In this path you will greatly improve both ATK and DEF. In the additional unlocked path you can unlock Ability Skills.
To unlock the full path of this route, you will need to have the Super ATK of the character at a certain level.

Note that not all characters will follow this exact rule and that there will be exceptions.

Unlocking Additional Paths

When you are unlocking nodes in the Ability System, you will come across nodes that are blocked.

To unblock this path, you need to use a “Character Card” that is exactly that same as the character that you’re using the Ability System on.

Unblocking a Blocked Node, Improvement Directions, Oblivion, Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle, Dokkan Battle Dupe System, DokkanBlog.com, Dupe System in Dokkan Battle

When you unlock one of these blocked nodes, it will turn into a regular node to improve one of your parameters. Thus, you will need Ability Orbs to unlock this node, to advance.

These blocked nodes can be unblocked, even if you haven’t advanced to that node yet.

The same character card that you use to unblock this node can be Z-Awoken or not.
Please note that dokkan awoken cards will not be considered as a “same character card”.

Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle, Dokkan Battle Dupe System, DokkanBlog.com, Dupe System in Dokkan Battle

On the top right you can see 4 icons, which display the current status of those blocked nodes.

Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle, Dokkan Battle Dupe System, DokkanBlog.com, Dupe System in Dokkan Battle

Clicking on one of these items will take you directly to the node that is blocked.

Reverse System

Reverse

You can temporarily put a dokkan awoken character into the pre-dokkan awoken form.

Reverse System, Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle, Dokkan Battle Dupe System, DokkanBlog.com, Dupe System in Dokkan Battle

You can use this system in situations where you need to unlock a path in the Ability System or when you have another character that you otherwise need to dokkan awaken to fuse the characters together.

When you use “Reverse” the stats and Super ATK Lv. will be adjusted to the pre-dokkan awoken character. Therefore it can happen that the values will be lower than the original. These will all return to normal when you “Reverse Dokkan Awaken” a character.

To use “Reverse” you need special “Mysterious Hourglass” medals.

Mysterious Hourglass, Reverse System, Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle, Dokkan Battle Dupe System, DokkanBlog.com, Dupe System in Dokkan Battle

You can obtain these “Mysterious Hourglass” medals from the Baba Treasure Shop.

Reverse Dokkan Awaken

Reverse Dokkan Awaken is used when you want to return a character, where “Reverse” has been used on, to its original dokkan awoken form.

This is different from regular Dokkan Awakening, in that you don’t need awakening medals or Zeni.

Reverse Dokkan Awakening, Mysterious Hourglass, Reverse System, Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle, Dokkan Battle Dupe System, DokkanBlog.com, Dupe System in Dokkan Battle

The character will return to the Dokkan awoken form that it was when the “Reverse System” was used.

Stats that have been improved with the “Ability System” and increased Super ATK during the pre-dokkan awoken form won’t be lost when “Reverse Dokkan Awaken” is used and the character is made into the dokkan awoken card again.

Dupe System: Understanding Which Branch to Choose

Credit to IamSpeeding on the JP Official Reddit forum

Since each card has the same ability tree (sans one space top left), here’s a little list to help those who are unsure of what branch to choose when upgrading their character.

Top Left
  • Type Damage: +3 (+2 before dupe roadblock)
  • Type Defense: +3 (+2)
  • SA Damage: +3 (+2)
  • Healing: +2 (+1)
  • The three star spaces offer +3 between Additional Attack, Critical Chance, or Dodge Chance. You can either +6 one of these and +3 another (leaving one +0), or +3 all of them. You may only access these stars if you use a dupe.
  • There is one space that offers +5 to one of three abilities (AA, Crit, or Dodge). Your cards type decides what space this is. AGL/PHY get additional attack, STR/TEQ get critical chance, and INT types get dodge. This space can be accessed without use of a dupe.

Top Right
  • Type Damage: +4 (+2 before dupe roadblock)
  • Type Defense: +1 (+0)
  • SA Damage: +2 (+1)
  • Healing: +3 (+2)
  • The star space is only accessible after using a dupe. The space gives you an option of +5 between Type Damage and SA Damage.

Bottom Left
  • Type Damage: +1 (+1 before dupe roadblock)
  • Type Defense: +4 (+2)
  • SA Damage: +2 (+1)
  • Healing: +3 (+2)
  • The star space is only accessible after using a dupe. The space gives you an option of +5 between Type Defense and Healing.

Bottom Right
  • Type Damage: +2 (+1 before dupe roadblock)
  • Type Defense: +2 (+1)
  • SA Damage: +3 (+2)
  • Healing: +2 (+1)
  • The four-star spaces offer +3 between Additional Attack, Critical Chance, or Dodge Chance. You can either +9 one of these and +3 another (leaving one +0), +6 two of them (leaving one +0), or +6 one of them and +3 the other two. You may only access these stars if you use a dupe. Two of these stars require SA10 to use.

More Info About the Potential Skills (Levels, Values, …)

Credit to mab_bh on the Reddit JP Official forums

This data was taken from the database:

Name Max Level Value Per Level Max Value
Additional Attack 20 2 40
Critical 20 2 40
Dodge 20 1 20
Type Damage 15 5 75
Type Defense 15 1 15
Super Attack Damage 15 5 75
Increase Healing 15 5 75

From what can I understand the “value” for the first 3 abilities shows the probability for them to activate, while for the other abilities it shows how much it get increased or reduced. For example, if your card has a lv 6 Critical the prob for the Critical to happen will be 12%, if your card has a lvl 10 Type Defense the damage will either be reduced by 10% or it may add an additional 0.1 to the type multiplier.

Also if you are wondering, the maximum for the first 3 abilities is 15 but each type has one +5 tile for a specific ability making it possible to reach lv 20 for just that certain skill.

Keep in mind that all of this information is based on the JP version of Dokkan Battle’s Dupe System.

The Dupe System currently not available in the Global Version of Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle (February 21st, 2017).
