SSJ3 Gotenks, or as some of us called him “Godtenks”, has arrived in Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle. Scroll to the bottom to see my Video Walkthrough of this event
Like the other “Mono God” characters, SSJ3 Gotenks can be Dokkan Awakened into an even more powerful card. But the catch is you must complete the event called “The Unparalleled Paragon of Hope”, which is not easy by any means. The event has been extremely difficult for 99% of players, as Dokkan Battle released “The Unparalleled Paragon of Hope” as a Dokkan Awakening event of Super difficulty. Needless to say, it took quite a few team compositions and Dragon Stones to figure out how to defeat Gotenks in this extremely difficult new Dokkan event.
Needless to say, it took quite a few team compositions and Dragon Stones to figure out how to defeat Gotenks in this extremely difficult new Dokkan event. Many people who know me know that I heavily favor Super Gogeta in Dokkan Battle. I pretty much swear by that character, and there are only a few stages that I will not promote using him as both your leader and your friend.
I tried many many times on 2. Super Gotenks! to use Super Gogeta, as his damage on the first two rounds of the event is so devastating. But I have found a much better team composition and strategy, one that was quite surprising in the end.
The secret, at least for me, was to use a team consisting of two Super Vegito (one as my leader and the other as my friend), three other AGI-type characters, and two INT characters. In this instance, I chose to use AGI Ultimate Gohan, AGI Golden Frieza, AGI SSR Whis, INT Vegito, and INT Vegeta.
I will elaborate more on my team composition a little later, as well as show you exactly which characters I used, etc. The important thing for choosing this team comp was that Dokkan Battle has created three rounds that are each quite difficult, but the trickiest part is the very last round.
The reason that this round is so difficult is because Super Gotenks takes on multiple forms, and only two of them leave him susceptible to damage. While we will get into more of the details shortly, I must point out that Super Gotenks is one of those rounds in which survival is very important.
The ideal situation is always to have Super Vegito capable of blocking, as his passive reduces normal attacks by 80% (when Dokkan Awakened), and returns a tremendous amount of damage. If you are able to carry two Super Vegito on your team, you have that many more opportunities to reduce your damage and return a bunch of damage back to Super Gotenks.
Let’s talk about what makes Super Vegito a standout character to defeat Super Gotenks in Dokkan Battle
Notice my full HP in this screenshot. 123,745. That’s because I bring a team consisting of primarily AGI-type characters, and Super Vegito’s leader skill gives + 70% HP, ATK and DEF along with AGL Type Ki +3. This amount of HP allows me to take some massive punishment, helping me survive the difficult part of this event, and inflict big damage once Super Gotenks breaks from SSJ3 form.
This massive amount of HP and defense, as mentioned, allows us to bring our standard items (Senzu Bean, King Yemma, Ghost Usher, and Dende), survive then destroy Super Gotenks. Let’s break down the strategy for each round.
Round 1: Goten and Trunks
When you enter into this event, titled “The Unparalleled Paragon of Hope” and enter the stage titled “2. Super Gotenks!” which costs 50 Stamina, you are given a bunch of tiles to gain Ki. The goal here, as always, is to gather as much Ki as you can before you take on the Boss.
Ki is always important for Boss fights like this, as you can launch Super Attacks with ease, without stressing over links. You will find that on this round linking is a little less important than blocking.
After you collect as much Ki as possible, you will first be greeted into a battle against TECH-Type Goten and INT-Type Trunks. They are the same cards that can now be Dokkan Awakened into Gotenks, and they are quite easy to defeat.
I typically focus Trunks first, as I have two INT characters to help me block TECH Goten, and my AGI characters can do more damage to INT Trunks, since they are neutral-types.
Round 2: Super Gotenks (PHY-Type)
During this round, Super Gotenks is PHY-Type. This may make some think that a good strategy would be to bring some STR-Type characters. However, between AGI-Golden Frieza who reduces damage by 80% when HP is above 50% and Super Vegito who blocks normal attacks for 80% (and counter attacks for a ton of damage), this round is quite easy.
Even when Super Gotenks uses a Super Attack, you will have so much HP that there should be no issues with blocking. Not to mention Gotenks damage is inferior during this round, and he will only get to use one or two super attacks on you before you defeat him.
Super Gotenks has only three health bars here, as opposed to the five that he will have once he becomes Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks. You are able to deal full damage to him at this stage, so if you play your cards right you should not take more than one super attack during this round.
That being said, you will be able to take a bunch of damage if you bring a team similar (or identical) to the one that I have chosen. Keep in mind that not only do AGI characters have 70% HP, they also have 70% ATK and DEF. So they will be able to inflict a bunch of extra damage and handle a bunch of damage.
Round 3: Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks – Super Gotenks – Gotenks (Transforming Round)
Round 3 is where the difficulty begins. This round in Dokkan Battle is quite similar to other Dokkan Events such as the God of Destruction Beerus event. Round 3 of The Unparalleled Paragon of Hope – Super Gotenks – requires you to battle three different forms of Gotenks: Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks, Super Gotenks, and Gotenks.
The stages are ordered from highest difficulty to the lowest, with the idea being that you need to survive Super Saiyan 3, and deal as much damage as possible during the other transformations.
Notice the damage in the screenshot above, or lack thereof. Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks, unless you bring a team of SR or higher Buu or Piccolo, takes an insanely low amount of damage. On top of that, he deals out a very high amount of damage. There are two turns that you must survive, or “six charges” as Dokkan Battle gauges it.
This is the time that I would recommend using Ghost Usher. Side Note: Ghost Usher will not work two rounds in a row. Unless you are certain that you can take the hit, or that he will not use a Super Attack and you can block with Super Vegito, it would be best to do whatever you can to simply survive Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks here.
As mentioned, the team that I have put together allows me to block (AGI Golden Frieza and two INT characters, plus two Super Vegito). Even with that, Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks is not always easy to block against. Especially if you roll three AGI characters, none of which are Super Vegito, and he is going to attack four different times that turn.
This will be the most difficult part of the event. Though it’s only for six charges, or two rounds, you will face Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks multiple times.
After you survive Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks, he will transform down to Super Gotenks
Once you have made it past the 6 charges that Dokkan Battle allows, Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks becomes just Super Gotenks. He is STR, and is much easier to deal damage to than Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks. That being said, this is not the most vulnerable form of Gotenks.
Dokkan Battle has made this a form of an in-between round, as the best time for dealing damage will be after the 6 charges against Super Gotenks.
Though this is not the best form of Gotenks to do damage to, you can definitely deal out some punishment here. On top of that, being that Gotenks will be STR-type, you can easily block him with the five different AGI characters that you may have on your team.
If you can line up Super Vegito to block Super Gotenks’ normal attacks, you’ll really start to layer damage.
After six charges against Super Gotenks, he should revert to Non-SSJ Gotenks
Also STR type, Gotenks will transform out of Super Saiyan. This is where you have a wide open opportunity to deal the majority of damage to Gotenks. It’s not common to actually defeat Gotenks once he drops out of Super Saiyan, but you should have a golden opportunity to capitalize on all of the damage you were unable to deal previously here.
He is much weaker, in damage dealt and damage received, bringing you a lot closer to Dokkan Awakening Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks.
This is the moment you prepare for: Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks is in his weakest state, allowing you to receive much less damage and dish out much more damage. Take full advantage of this opportunity, and use everything you have. Because after the six charges against Gotenks, he will transform once again into Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks.
